This article actually makes a lot of sense to me. I have been trying to spend the coins myself instead of putting them into the bank, but the problem is that sometimes I feel quite uncomfortable using them because the merchants tend to give me the "what the $^!# is this" kind of look when they receive the coins from me as payment, especially the small family businesses, such as a neighborhood restaurant or a barber's. I've really had no issue spending small quanities (<$25) at a time. I am sometimes surprised that people take them so easily as if they have seem them their entire life (especially when I stack $15 or so up on a counter at a cash only place).
