Holiday Inn Express Camarillo (Master Thread) - no longer a Holiday Inn Express
I wanted to post a review of a stay I recently had at the HIX in Camarillo, CA. It was a one night stay and I'm currently a Gold level Priority Club member.
The hotel is right off the 101, I personally was hoping that there was an Priority Club property in Oxnard but this seemed to be the closest property. There isn't really much in immediate walking distance other than a local Mexican restaurant and what I think is a bar of sorts (but it didn't look like it was open at 9pm).
The property is a older 3 story property on par with the many other older HIX properties in and around LA. The checkin area and common areas are kept well and it has seen a modest recent upgrade of the furniture and wallpaper. I believe it has a pool out back but I don't usually partake on work trips. The staff at the check-in was polite and prompt. There seemed to be enough parking and I arrived fairly late.
I'm gold and I was upgraded to one of the "Suites" on a 109.99 AAA rate (seems high for being farther from LA?). There looks like there are 8 suites on the 3rd floor and the other floors seem to mirror the layout so there's probably 8 on each floor. The suites are just larger rooms with a half height wall that juts out 3 ft into the room. It has a sofa and coffee table in addition to the desk. All of the rooms look like they have sizable balconies and they have screens on the door to keep out the bugs. There's no furniture on the balcony to sit on though.
The room decor is remodeled to one of the newer carpet/wallpaper combos that you see in most HIX properties. The furniture looks new. The bed linens were new too. The TV is a 20" RCA tube that looks very dated and the picture/sound is marginal at best if its working at all on the channel. I know it can be a big investment but even a cheap 20ish inch LCD would help. There is a small mini fridge and microwave in a built in near the bathroom and across from a full closet.
The bathrooms is where the property really shows it age. They are very small and you have to have the door closed to easily use the sink/tub/toilet. They also haven't updated the counters and tub in 15+ years. It was clean but just replacing the counters with anything would go far to modernize the bathroom. They have the new shower head and curved shower rod though. The bath towels were newer and soft.
Its a good property and if its #1 on TripAdvisor in Camarillo, I'd hate to see what's lower.
