A few minutes of fiddling with the settings on the phone (Blue phone button, Settings soft key, Screen Saver soft key, select 1 minute, and take brightness all the way down, save) fixed this for me. Whew!

One of the maddening little things I'm noticing which they need to get better at is consistency and personal attention. Three examples:

1) I use the door hanger for breakfast, it needs to be replaced... every single time. I'm 2 for 4 so far on this one.

2) I drink all the water and sugar-free drinks from the mini-fridge, but leave the sugar-y drinks, why not reset the balance of what they store in there and keep notes for my next visit?

3) The towel for outside the shower has been in a slightly different format every day I've been here (rolled on the floor, rolled on the bar, hanging from the bar, and rolled on top of the bath towels). Nitpicky, but why the deviation?

I'm also just a bit irked by the room selection -- I'm 6'5" and the calf-height soap dish in the shower is starting to get to me. Was an accessible Andaz King in the North Tower really the "best available room" for a Diamond? It might not seem like a big thing, but it doesn't show an all-out effort to impress: quite the opposite, in fact. If I wanted the "you should be happy we're letting you stay" thing, I'd be at the W.

Still, I suspect the staff issues will get ironed out if the GM is half as responsive in person as on this forum. It's a new property and service culture takes some time to hone. The property is physically attractive, well-located, and has a great concept.

2 more nights to go!
