Another factor here is the strong Canadian Dollar. What was worth .63 8 years ago now hovers near par. This will keep Canadians crossing the border and traveling to US destinations like Hawaii. I am puzzled by HNL service though. If it is the leisure traveler they are wanting, most here want to go to OGG.
I think HNL and Oahu is more of a family destination and OGG is more of a couples destination. Look at the crowds at Wakiki Beach. AS may be trying to get more of the family trip which can sell more seats, baggage etc.
