Until about 3 months ago, Tmobile was not able to differentiate email from data in China, HK, Phils, Thailand (probably more countries; these are the only ones I know), and a lot of my friends exploited this loophole for ~3 years. Then, a round of 4-figure bills went out and they didn't have any legs to stand on.
