a question of manners/etiquette

Had a rude encounter with another passenger (most likely a non-revenue).
Was flying from IAD-MSY and MSY to LAX (same plane, different number from New Orleans).

I have a carryon that is 22 in in length and conforms to the UA cabin luggage dimensions (I just checked again). Had it for 10 years, never had a problem in many airlines across the world.

However, on the A319 it does does not go into the overhead cabin length wise (putting in backwards frontwards etc... I tried). I am a UA 1P, so I usually get to board early, I put my carryon in, left the door open, in case someone wanted to put some small stuff over my carryon or in front and sat down.

These two people (mother daughter?) come in way late in the boarding process, after the boarding group 3 or 4. She comes in moves my suitcase to put it in lengthwise, and I point out that the it will not close. She says that if my carryon does not go lengthwise, I should have to check it. ....

She then puts her smaller suitcase in, leaves mine lengthwise in and sits down, the overhead bin will not close as she found out and as did I. I am peeved, and point this out to the flight attendant, who was just wonderful. She opened another bin, and found some space, difuses the situation by enlisting my help in a very positive way, that we could move another small bag from bin 1 to this new bin, and then my suitcase could be turned back into original configuration and the bin closed...

I note the seat of this passenger and her co-traveller (2 rows in front of me).

Fast Forward: 30 min: Next flight, same plane, I have the same seat. Again I board right after the GS, 1K, 1st classers... go take the same bin. Again this gal, her co-traveller and another friend come in boarding last (and assigned to E+). This flight is more full and the bin space is even tighter, she does not force the issue this time, takes her suitcase and puts in under the space in front of her (she had a different seat on this flight)...

so summary: kudos to a great flight attendant, should I write and complain to United about this non-revenuer... at the very least she was rude...

(thinking some, after coming home, she was likely flying standby on each flight, and might not be able to continue flying if she was going to SFO or somewhere if she checked her luggage ....) ...

so what would you do? write and complain to United? I am calm now and reflective ..
