Perhaps at the New UA we will still retain this ability.
By the way, CO also rewards employees with a bonus for an On Time arrival. We are asked to close the doors 10 minutes prior to posted departure time but our bonus is based up arrival time. We will and do hold the doors for connecting customers beyond the T-10 mark but not beyond the posted departure time.
Unfortunately, we asked for it. I will bet all my miles that someone in WHQ did a survey that asked what was the most important thing to customers. And the response was "on-time." So on-time is the mantra. When they're answering a survey, no one thinks that they're one day going to be the one watching from the terminal window as the jet bridge pulls away five minutes before departure time.
