I think there are definitely undertones of "Know Your Place" in some of the coverage out of the more right-leaning publications I've read. I think some of the online Slater glorification is misguided, but the idea that he (and those millions of Americans in jobs like his) should be resigned to being a human punching bag is equally extreme, IMHO.
For instance, the NYDN op-ed linked upthread makes reference to "proles" and "wage slaves" and gravely warns that "leaving an employer on fine terms... is vital to finding a new post".
This guy is up on federal charges. Something tells me he's not worried about a recommendation letter right now. I'm surprised one of these outlets haven't blamed this incident on Congress stalling the upper-class tax cut extension...
