My last (nearly) trans-con on Greyhound was 1971, from Boise to Orlando to report for the draft. I've no recollection of the costs but it doesn't matter - I'll never do that again. As to the OP, I think the replies indicate two things: 1) usually the bus will be cheaper, and 2) demand and competition determine prices, not any arbitrary cost structure we might imagine.
