You can book a return flight and only use the outbound flight, that's no issue. You would in that case just waste the return leg but i guess you wouldn't mind considering you still save money.

The airline doesn't really care as long as you don't check in for the flight. They'll just realise that you won't check in and the seat will either be given to someone on the standby list or the seat remains free.

You should actually be able to get back a part of the tax because you didn't make the flight.
