The shareholder discount has worked on non-ex-UK bookings for quite a while now, so if you want to try and it works for you then just go with it - it works for me, and even worked on top of the recent 15% discount promotion code (which has now ended before anyone asks).
Just noticed this - where should one have been looking for the now expired 15% discount code as I didn;t see it here?
I got a great deal last year with a 20% discount code (from here), shareholder discount and low base fares to NYC. Would have been nice to repeat it - although I possibly did better, signing the wife up to her own BA Amex and putting 10k through it fairly quickly. As we each have a secondary card on each others account, together with a PayPal card each, we can put 4k a month through the BA Amex before we've even spent anything.
