I would never fly Eastern even if they were still in business and I was not unhappy when they went BK, although I might have felt bad for some of the employees who lost their jobs. Way back in 1987, my grandfather died and my father booked bereavement fares to FLL. At the airport, Eastern changed equipment to a narrow body plane and bumped us. We were told to get on a DL flight that arrived in FLL 4 hours after the original flight. The GA never asked for volunteers and when he saw me start to tear up because I thought I would miss my grandfather's funeral, he said we better get a move on or "you'll miss that flight, too" and turned his back. The DL crew was incredibly nice even to the point of asking other pax to give up their meals for the family who got bumped from Eastern (not enough meals catered). We told the FA it wasn't necessary but it was a very nice gesture.
My grandmother ended up rescheduling the funeral from Sunday to Monday which was truly an issue since it was a Jewish ceremony (the dead are expected to be buried within one day of death and it had already been extended one day because of sabbath). Also, fewer friends of my Grandfather could attend on a Monday than Sunday.
The compensation we received when my father complained was first class back to EWR. Ugh. I will always remember that GA and what a miserable person he was.
