So, in the United Economy international sector they allow 23kg for 2 bags (thus totally 46kg) + hand baggage.

In the domestic sector, they allow way lesser, like 20kg total or something.

Now, in my case, how will they know and allow me more baggage than the other fellow economy people? Will the people around me frown at me?
I have a slightly different question. My parents in law are connecting from Cathay Pacific to United Domestic flight @ SFO. Since they do not have status with United, they thought they would have to pay United baggage fees.

I told them when they checked in at Cathay Pacific to have their luggage checked to their final, domestic, destination. At SFO they would claim their luggage and go through customs.

I'm assuming there is an area nearby that they can drop their luggage for their UA domestic flight. Also, that they would not check status and charge for baggage fees.

Since I live in the SF area, when I return from an international trip, I simply clear customs and leave. Any information about with connection process would be appreciated.
