I was told today that DFW's runways cannot handle 744's... I cannot believe this.

Can someone with first hand knowledge corroborate this...? Thanks.

DFW can NOT handle a fully loaded 744 at anytime regardless of weather or which runway it uses. But then no airport in the US can except for LAX.

All DFW's runways are rated at a maximum weight for Dual Double Tandem landing gear aircraft of 850,000 lbs.

The 744's max weight is 875,000 and the ER's is 910,000. There are NO airports that I know of that will handle a 744ER fully loaded. And only LAX can handle the non ER fully loaded.

Now can DFW handle 744's the answer is YES. And they do. Just within the limits of the runways and weather conditions.

DFW can handle anything any airport in the US can handle except for LAX which can do 900,000 lbs.
