It all depends on the length of the trip, the temperature, the altitude of the runway, and the weight of the airplane.

Denver has five 12,000-foot runways currently, yet none of them are suitable for year-round non-stop flights to some destinations in Asia and Europe. The airport is constructing a 16,000-footer!
