Dropped the wife of at DXB for a work flight from DXB-LHR where her company will only provide WT travel. Would happily play for an upgrade to WT+ minimum but due to their company using a Travel Agent this is never possible.
Booked the seat via OLCI last week and notice even then is was looking busy, but picked a seat with the best possible chance of a spare seat next to her. With -T24 checked again the seating and the seat next to her was still empty so proceeded to print the boarding pass.
On arrival at the airport 2 1/2 hours before takeoff we used he business class checking desk. As soon as the BP was handed over the staff ripped the paper up saying that your been upgraded from WT+ to J ??? As she was only booked WT has the system upgraded her then by mistake the staff then upgraded her to J because the flight was overbooked !!!
This double OpUp was a grate gift which put a hugh smile on her face and managed to get a full 5 hours sleep....
Guess this is a very rare upgrade but is always apriciated.
