I'm thinking about using Starpoints -- it's 11500 a night for a 1BR. With 2 free weekend nights and buy 4 get one free, I should be able to get 7 nights there for 46000 Starpoints.
We're here now. I managed to get too much sun (no sunburn, but a bit lightheaded after a drink with no lunch) and am relaxing in the room for a bit. For those of us who live in the northern part of the country, the sun and heat in Cancun is a bit more than we're used to.

I booked a FWN, one 10K night in a studio, and 5 nights in a 1-bedroom for 46K Starpoints. When a concierge emailed me, I asked about paying to upgrade the first 2 nights and she got back to me and said it would cost $120 US per night or 1500 Starpoints per night, but it would be subject to availability and I would pay at the end of the stay.

Arrived yesterday and they upgraded me for free since "[I'm] a valuable platinum member." I didn't expect this (and I wouldn't expect it again and am still wondering if they're going to ask for the points at the end of the stay), but saving 3000 Starpoints is very nice. We have a nice 2-bedroom on the top (8th) floor in building 2.

The concierge called after we checked in and arranged an appointment to meet with her and she offered us another tour of the property (we had one last year) and offered us 6500 Starpoints or 100 USD for 90 minutes of our time. She also arranged a good discount on a dolphin swimming and daylong park excursion at Garrafon, which we were going to do anyway.

So far, so good.

Oh, the WiFi isn't strong enough in the room for me to use, but is strong enough to use at the pool (although it's hard to see an iPad's screen in the sunlight). The wired internet is fine, though.
