I fly 2-3 longhauls a month (Europe-Asia), all in business class, mostly with LH/LX, and credit the miles to BMI. Had I credited these miles to LH M&M, I would have certainly reached HON status in about 12-14 months.
But
InfiniteCycle is right. When I'm at the office, maximising mileage or segments is the furthest thing from my mind. Mostly I spend my time trying to figure out "how can I most effectively combine this trip with something else to avoid unnecessary flying (and expense)?" or more often still, "is there any way I can accomplish whatever I'm trying to accomplish without getting on a plane?"
It's affected my personal travel as well. A few years ago, I was desperate to jump onto a plane to fly to Thailand for my annual holiday. These days, I look for places where I can drive, take the train, or worst case, take a short-haul flight. About three hours is my max desired flying time.
I suppose it's like anything in life: you can have too much of a good thing. I love a good steak, but I'd get tired of it pretty fast if I ate it every day.
Of course, it would be nice to be further forward in the plane, but sometimes the only thing that is better than the VIP treatment in the airport, is not having to go through an airport at all, staying at home and playing with your kids, riding bikes, going fishing, whatever......
Too true. These days, nothing brings me more pleasure that sitting in my own easy chair, sleeping on my own bed, and spending time unwinding at home.
