TVC
Rented Hertz vehicle at TVC for 2 days, declined fuel charges. I generally fly GA and made arrangements for pickup at the FBO and drop off at the FBO. Car was not available at FBO, and was upgraded for the hassle at the main counter in the airline terminal.
Car was returned the next day to the FBO with the fuel tank full as agreed, but I was charged for the two days and a full tank of fuel @55.83, despite only 78 miles on the car.
Hertz would only credit the fuel if I produced a receipt for the fuel. I informed the station agent that the tank was full as requested, that of course I had the receipt for the 3.03 gallons I put in the car at the gas station 1 block from the airport, and she should issue a credit immediately, receipt unseen or put me in touch with the station manager. She told me it would take 3-4 weeks for a credit. I do not find that acceptable, so I disputed the charge with the CC company, who agreed to mark it in dispute. Let Hertz deal with the paperwork from the CC company.
I was told it was a mistake. From reading this forum, "mistakes" like this appear to be quite frequent.
This may also be a violation of Michigan law in as much as it amounts to theft by conversion. I told HERTZ that if they can process a charge in an hour and get it billed, they jolly well do not need 3-4 weeks to process a credit and 24-48 hours should be adequate or do I need to file a complaint with the Traverse City PD to have a record of the problem? We'll see what happens next.
Also wondering if the Wire Fraud law applies to all of these transactions since they use the wire to transmit their CC billing information (across state lines, too, I'll bet).
