Now that's a different issue altogether than claiming that it wouldn't work. If one has to provided a dedicated lane for the straddle bus, one might as well have a doubledecker wide bus. Sufficient space on either sides and sufficient clearance, and sufficient density of travellers, is enough make the road a possible candidate.
