This was my favorite part of being MVP a well. AS miles are still worth something and while you watch them pile up you can imagine the potential (without the threat of certain disappointment--as so many have experienced on DL, for example).

I did manage a pretty good upgrade ratio on west coast flights. But even with Gold status I have a hard time headed anywhere else.

And yes, boarding early is also valuable.
