If it's columbus day weekend, then it's the chicago marathon, and rooms are very hard to find. Expect to have a three day minimum at most properties unless you stay out of the chicago metro area and are willing to stay by the airports or the burbs.
I know Palmer house has a 3 night minimum that weekend as does the BW property I like to stay at in Lakeview.
The only thing I can think of is they don't require a 3 night minimum on a reward stay but that wouldn't make sense if they are requiring it on a paid stay. It is possible too if someone goes to book the room they won't be able to complete the transactions. I have it show rooms at a lot cheaper rate on the available screen when it shows the hotels available but then when I go to book it shows a lot higher rate. I have also had it show rooms available with a rate and then when I click on the screen to reserve it, it will say no availablity for the dates I selected and suggest other area hotels or ask me to change the date.

I'm confused. I was just searching around for a Chicagoland hotel for October 9. There must be something big going on there that weekend, because a huge number of hotels show "May Be Available Diamond Privilege" in the availability block in the regular booking engine.
But when you switch to the reward side, some of those same hotels (not all) show "Standard Hotel Reward Available" with the green check mark. The ones that don't say that say "Diamond Desk. . .Call for Assistance."
I just sort of assumed that if you are in a position where you have to use Diamond Force to buy a room, there would certainly be no reward rooms available at the same hotel on the same date.
What am I missing here?
