Am having a serious problem getting my driving licence back from DVLA in time for my USA hols in 2 weeks. We have to rent a car whilst there. Despite my licence being sent over 3 weeks ago now it still has not been shown as being received by them when I enquire.

They said today they can arrange something called an "Entitlement to Drive", which they said was a sort of temporary licence. But...they also said it was provided the rental car company accepts these and the police at my destination and that was sopely down to me to confirm as they cannot advise on this.

So does anyone have experience of using this document in the USA in place of a UK driving licence proper?
