Absolutely correct. We used to have a downburst-related crash or major incident about every 18 months. The last one was in July, 1994, in CLT (USAir 1016), so we have now gone more than sixteen years.

I have written a book chronicling how weather science has made flying safer, how we have cut the death rate from tornadoes by 95% (!), and saved tens of thousands of lives in hurricanes. The title is Warnings: The True Story of How Science Tamed the Weather. It is written in "story" style and the reviews have been great. It is available at Amazon and all of the major booksellers. I invite you to visit the Amazon site and look at the reviews or to my website: www.mikesmithenterprises.com/book.cfm .
