I feel like adding my experience on DL to this thread. A few years ago I boarded a LAX-JFK flight, luckily on a former Song plan, and since I suffer from a digestive disorder any time where I can get a lil anxious can set this condition off. Oddly enough a little Tequila or Bourbon settles the nerves and my stomach in one shot (not volume I'm referring to 2 birds 1 stone symbolism). I boarded and requested a Bourbon/Tequila and a glass of seltzer for taking medication. A few people around me looked at me funny so I added that It was for medicinal purposes. No more than 2 minutes later I had 3 Delta employees questioning me. Asking me if I had been drinking, how much had I had ect ect. Each asking questions without giving me time to even respond before the next employee asked their question. I told them to stop right there and that I hadn't had anything to drink yet. I explained my situation and was laughed at. That kind of annoyed me so I offered to put them in touch with my MD if they'd like since he and I have discussed this many times. No he doesn't condone using alcohol as a treatment but in moderation he doesn't see a problem if it works. They then told me to wait there to see if the pilot had anything to say. What happened next made me laugh. Turned out I was sitting next to an FBI agent. He asked me what had been going on and laughed. I sat there and the pilot came back. He proceeded to ask me the same questions. Which I said that I hadn't been drinking. I even took out the receipt from the lunch I had 2 hours before take off which showed no alcohol on it. He then sent the other DL employees away and shook his head, apologized to me and sent me 2 bourbons for free.
I think in today's "post 9-11 flying" people tend to overreact. I hate to use both those terms but I've been treated and seen people treated in various manners that just simply didn't need to happen. I'm fine with being searched and questioned about where I'm going or where I've gone but if I display no sense of a threat it's time to move on and let the flight go on.
