Well actually UA does, perhaps you just don't fly UA enough, or don't know what you can do about it. UA actually is the most generous airline for compensation (Believe or not they would even compensate if the reading light is not functioning). For a delay like that, you can very easy to get a $250 voucher or even more depends on the status, though it is not cash. It is always voucher for future flights, wouldn't like some other airlines just give you some miles or a voucher for duty free only.

If you don't believe me you can just go to UA board and read some of the threads there, and there is even a thread delicate for compensation.
