My friend, correctly, resisted, and finally she backed off, though muttering that she knew she could "detect" tobacco on him. What if her purser had given her the benefit of the doubt?
After Mr 4F and his wife were ejected, my seatmate told me about an ANC-PHX flight on US a couple of years ago. Again seated in F, my seatmate watched as an FA prepared to throw out a man for repeatedly shouting at an FA in response to her questions. As things rapidly escalated, my seatmate intervened, pointing out to the FA that the pax concerned was well into his eighties and was simply very hard of hearing.

Cooler heads prevailed, and the octogenarian was allowed the privilege of staying on board.
