I guess they realistic view here has to be: you're just a customer, and you don't mean squat to us and we can't even be troubled to give you real help if you need it. Don't bother us unless you're flying first or business class.
No, this isn't UA's fault. This is yours. The realistic view is that you need to have your clue about whats going on and not hate when somebody doesn't understand the problem you created between YOU and multiple THIRD parties. This was always an issue between you and Air China. Your travel agent knew what was up. It was probably even in some of the fine print provided by your travel agent.
