Okay, JS is quoting a rule which says "after departure" but I thought we were talking about a one-way fare, so the applicable rule would be "before departure". The fact that you may have other flights in the same PNR isn't relevant, to my understanding.

However, all of the above is supposition based on my understanding. Anyone with a good clarification?
