Consensus from reading this board would be that CX would be preferable over KE for inflight service, especially in premium classes. KE has angled lie flat seats in J; CX has fully flat, although they are in a "herringbone" pattern which some people like and some hate.
KE's got more west coast gateways - SEA, YVR, SFO, LAX, LAS - upping your chances. CX only has YVR, SFO and LAX. AS/QX will fly you to the international gateway city if it's not SEA.
KE's more expensive too in terms of miles too! I like CX's herringbone config though;YMMV.
CX LAX(SFO)-HKG-SGN is probably full but that's one routing...I remember I reserved LAX-HKG in J 6 months in advance and the AS lady said I got the almost to last seat . People say to use BA's tool to look up award seats, others say just to use CX's tool for award seats...well, again, YMMV.
