2pts everyone gets plus the 3rd is if you have status then if you paid for the stay with your Amex SPG CC thats 2 pts per $1 total of 5 pts for those with status and pay with a Amex ASPG

Your point is well taken but, for my arithmetic, I only consider the
actual benefit of using the SPG Amex card at an SPG property to be
two points per dollar spent and nothing more. As a platinum guest, earning the additional three points per dollar is independent of my form of payment, whether it be my Schwab Visa, cash or anything else.
For international properties, my hotel "purchase" is also subject to the 3% foreign currency conversion fee exacted by Amex. There, continued use of Amex has already ceased to make sense for me, irrespective of the $65 I would now need to pay for the privilege of using that card.
