Is this really fair?

Actually, there's an anterior question: Is this accurate?

I actually get a fare of £3681.40 for GLA-LHR-JFK and return. Although ba.com says "no changes no refunds", it books into D on the longhauls and J on the shorthauls. Checking ITA Software suggests that the fare basis is D2BAD, the same as the LHR-JFK and return, and the fare conditions are the same: £200 change, £200 cancel.

So my first guess is ba.com is simply wrong.
