Did you lose Gold Status at the end of February? Once I made Gold via the spend, my status has never gone back to preferred, even though I don't usually hit the spend threshold until mid summer.

Which brings me to my somewhat related question: Once the spend threshold is reached and Gold status granted, does one lose the Gold status if one closes the SPG Amex account through which the status was earned?
Recently added the Business SPG Amex with first year free , am not excited about the $45 fee that was assessed this billing period for the personal card (although I suppose I should be grateful it wasn't the $65 that has been announced).
