Diners is not a very good card for most people IMHO. First of all, the annual fee of $95 is almost double the regular Citibank fee of $50. Then, they have a fee for transfering your Diners points to AA ($1.90 for each 2000 points to 1000 AA miles transfer). On top of that, it's accepted almost nowhere in the US (abroad it has a somewhat larger acceptance). Unless you travel for business and need to allow as much time as possible for getting reimbursed (Diners gives you up to 60 days to pay), or rent a lot of cars (Diners has primary coverage for LDL), it's not a very convenient card at all.

For everyday purchases, Citibank or Amex are much better. If you charge enough, I second highgamma's advice: go with the Starwood Amex (assuming that the points-to-miles transfer terms don't change in the near future).
