You need to select that you would like to earn AA miles (vs. guest ovations points) to generate a box to input your AA number.
Also, as far as referalls go, I found the following from the guest ovations web site:

Guest Ovations members can qualify for Gold status even faster by referring friends or co-workers to the program who then stay at least one night. Simply, have your friends or co-workers sign up for the Guest Ovations program at
www.guestovations.com, complete the enrollment information and have them enter your 9-digit Guest Ovations member id in the identified field ... when your friends and co-workers have their first paid night stay you receive credit towards Gold!
