Program-to-date mileage includes ALL mileage that you earn from ANY source, including flying on AA and partners, Citi credit card purchases, retail (1800Flowers, FTD, Plow&Hearth, etc.), and even selling your home.

The reason that the "program-to-date" counter exists is so that you can track your progress toward Million Mile (MM) Status (an undocumented feature of AAdvantage). After one million miles, you always will have at least Gold status in the AAdvantage program as long as the Gold elite program continues to exit. After two million miles, you will have at least Platinum status for the life of the Platinum program. Lifetime Executive Platinum does not exist.
