I did that, too, from SFO-JFK. I think they were referred to as Moonlight Fares and only applied to that last flight of the night with more cargo space than passengers. Another carrier that ran combi-freighters just after that was Air Canada. I flew them from Toronto to London in 1992 on my first trip to Europe on a consolidator fare.
