Believe it or not I have had my Nexus card denied as simple identification (instead of a Drivers License) at 3 separate airports recently;
Port Columbus, Ohio
Orange County, CA
Chicago O'Hare
When I asked every TSA agent if they even knew what it was in all cases (except ORD) they hadn't even heard of it!!!
At ORD they said it could only be used as a secondary ID and I asked the agent if they would rather have a DL (Which almost anyone can get) to this ID which was issued by the Department of Homeland Security after an extensive background check...........!!!
She said she would check with her supervisor....after I showed her my DL and was then allowed to move forward in line. She took my Nexus card (apparently to her supervisor) and came back to tell me that indeed it was ONLY good as a secondary ID and could NOT be used as a primary form of ID.
While the little guy on my left shoulder (remember the movie Animal House) was telling that this was absolutely wrong and yet another example of the complete incompetence of the TSA and I should make a stink, the other guy was whispering on my other ear "It doesn't matter if you are right and they are incompetent.....these Bozo's can make your life a living hell now and in the future" and simply mumbled under my breath and made my way onto the airplane and on to my next meeting.
It makes me want to write a letter to Janet Napolitano....but then I'd likely be black marked not only next time I tried to use Nexus going in and out of Canada but likely also GLobal Entry as well as every other TSA checkpoint across the USA......ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
