I talked with the manager and he didn't understand it either so he did some research. The explanation came back that all their corporate rates include breakfast and they reduce the roomrate by the cost of breakfast and charge sales tax on the breakfast portion and room tax on the remainder. Although the bill shows the original room rate. This is a first for me.

Sounds way more complicated than it needs to be. And I'm not sure all the numbers add up. Now I do know you can file your sales tax based upon amount collected or as a percentage of gross sales. So if they don't breakout the breakfast portion, there's no tax due since there was no revenue earned.

Might be a good topic for an investigative reporter...
