The new management has made it quite clear that they intend to grow AC, not shrink it.
Many of the A320s will be 30-years-old by the time some of those later 787's come on. The 787 is an ideal A320 replacement on a number of domestic routes.
The "new management" has to figure out how to make money before they go too deep into expansion.
Choosing a random mid-week depart/return (Oct 13/27) YYZ-BOM, I'm seeing $1,319 as the lowest on Expedia. Same dates YVR-SYD (which is an identical distance) the lowest is $1,250.
At $1250 or $1319 return, they may as well just park the airplanes and shut down because they're not making money on those routes.
