Well when going to BKK it was 30K extra miles. I looked at that as about $350. Figuring about 35 hours RT that comes to $10 an hour. Obviously converting 30K to $350 is subjective but that is my value. I gave one of the NRT-BKK segments half credit because it was an awful plane not much better than domestic F.

The extra 40K miles for USA-India might also come under that number with my mileage valuation.

I understand that's not the way I phrased the question, but I kept it to cash upgrades since miles are subjective and cash is not.

I also doubt I would get the opportunity to upgrade with cash at my numbers but that is what it will take. On our recent ORD-ZRH LX flight my wife answered that she would only be willing to pay $50.
