the buying a ticket in the next year isn't a problem, but I already have 4 free flight vouchers from united, and I'm using one for next easter to visit the in-laws (with the Mrs.) and one to visit the in-laws again for christmas next year. My experience is that the e cert will not be usable after 1 year. Many here have reported that the travel by date on ecerts is not enforced. Could it start being enforced between now and Easter 2012? Sure.
