I always carry my Diamond card and provide it with my credit card at check-in. It's my way of ensuring they recognise my status and provide entitled benefits without having to verbally ask. In most cases the agent says they have a record of both, in other cases the agent sees the Diamond card and does something on the pc. How could it possibly hurt?
This is precisely my approach - as I'm usually on an AAA or government rate, I hand over the diamond card and affinity/discount card I'm using at the same time. As I use the Hyatt card for more than 30 stays a year, it's worth the extra wallet space.
