Thanks KiwiFlyer -- very helpful info. We'll be driving in early December, so I don't think weather would be an issue. Plus, we live in New England so are well used to winter driving, just in case!

Which route would you choose? Coastal road sound appealing if the views are over the ocean, and we'll see the mountains elsewhere on the trip.
