Grounded names include Eastern, TWA, Allegheny, Braniff, Western and Pan Am.
The writer needs to double check his sources. Allegheny (aka Agony) changed its name to Us Air in the late 70's, and in spite of being acquired by America West, it still exist.
TWA was acquired by American in 2001, and as we all know, it's name is gone. The same fate happened to Western after its acquisition by Delta in 1986-87.
Braniff, Eastern, and Pan Am all died slow painful deaths in that order, and are with us no more.
