Sorry if this is a stupid question -- I'm new to this forum & this is my 1st post:

I had 35,000 Priority Club points, which I used with cash (5000 + $60/nt) for 7 free nights at a hotel in Asia. Trip isn't until November, but rates I have found for comparable rooms online made this seem like a good way to go (given potential schedule conflicts that could cause cancellation, I am not comfortable pre-paying for the rooms and that is only way to get a cheaper effective rate).

After reading the posts on this forum, I have registered for many Priority Club promotions, including the 5000 point Platinum bonus.

Since my trip is so far off, can I cancel the reservation, get the 105,000 points dropped back into my active account, achieve Platinum status and then -- after getting the 5000 point bonus -- re-book the free hotel nights?
