How else would you suggest it be done? A quick search yielded U.S. population of 287 million (#3) with China (#1) at 1.287 billion, and India (#2) with 1.050 billion.
Air India and China Airlines would be lucky to rank above Air Jamaica or BWIA as far as passengers flown per year.
