Why be "furiated" (I think you mean "infuriated") having to sit in a middle seat when you book the day before you fly? Maybe that was the only available seat when booking so late.

If you are referring to travel companions booking aisle/window with the middle free, I have done that on occasion in the past. My niece and I traveled from JFK to HKG and neither of us wanted the middle seat, especially on such a long flight. She took the window, I took the aisle. Someone else sat between us, but that was fine with us.
