Stick with M+ and work to get 1K. Your domestic flights will upgrade as a M+ elite (at 18K short of 1K you are a 1P now, which according to udustats.com enjoys a high success rate; 1K is even better).
Since you fly LH on Z fares, you can have your 6 SWUs you would get as a one 1K printed to paper and use them to upgrade on LH. See

Also, consider using UA metal to FRA, and connecting to LH to India. This way you'll attain million mile status on UA much faster. When I go to India, depending on price (LH metal is sometimes cheaper), I usually use UA metal to across the Atlantic.
