-eastern toilets tend to be cleaner than western toilets, all other things being equal, because there is no skin contact
-the tap water thing is improving quite a bit as plumbing infrastructure gets updated. The problem is that it's difficult to stay on top of which areas are safe and which ones aren't, so it pays to err on the side of caution
